In a word- Brilliant! Very high quality. Precise. Handsome. As with the many other Citizens I've owned, it lives up to the name. I ranked this a solid four stars. What kept it from the 5th were two minor shortcomings. First, the watch band. While solid and substantial, unlike the product pictures it doesn't measure up to the watch. I found it to be a bit on the cheap side. At close inspection the finish appears a somewhat fake (it isn't real croc) and the white decorative stitching is a diameter too thin to hold up to the scale of the watch piece. Others won't probably see it at a casual glance at your wrist though. Obviously the easy remedy is to invest in a better band at the appropriate time- no pun intended. Secondly, the "mocha" colored face is not the same shade as the picture represents. It is closer to the standard black watch face, and in fact the outer dial with the E6B nomenclature is indeed black. I... I use the watch just to tell the time; while I love a watch loaded with retro doodads for its looks(alarm, chronograph, dual time, slide rule, eco-drive, perpetual calendar) I probably won't use them too much.What I was not happy with is that the manual is as bare-bones as it gets. A generic teeny-tiny manual with a few pages. It talks about two watch modules and one has to figure out which module is theirs by looking at the back of the watch. Come on Citizen, you can do better on the manual and match the right module to the right manual without asking the customer to do it. And while there are other Internet tutorials on how to use the slide rule, would it kill you to include one in the box, or post it on your web site? I've had Citizen watches for years, including their 'high end' Noblia watches, which were just Citizens with higher prices (!). Still, they last forever, keep great time, and look fantastic.I'll keep this brief - the watch does everything it promises to do. BUT - the printed manual is useless. Worse, it's actually wrong. Fortunately, the watch also comes with a mini-CDROM that includes a FLASH tutorial that takes you through the setting procedure step-by-step. That's what I needed - with that, setting the watch was straightforward. DO NOT LOSE THIS DISK! That said, this is a beautiful watch. This is my first Eco-Drive, and I'm excited to have a watch that doesn't chew up batteries. |
